Website Design for Coaching & Development CompanyThe Helix website was created for a client with very strong ideas. The four strands of his business had to be represented in helixes which were to go across the whole screen. For me the challenge was to create a site that kept the precision regardless of the size of the viewer's monitor. I also wanted the logo and menu to be off-centre which added to the complication but I feel this adds to the tension of the design making it much more interesting. I drew the helixes in Illustrator. Each loop has a front and back, which hide or show depending on which is displayed. Considering the complexity of the preparatory work, the finished website is deceptively simple. |
The different helixes are used as a device to hang the menu from. The case study links, for instance, slip into the spaces between the loops. The whole website uses just four colours (plus black) each had to work on its own but also to combine with the others. I avoided obvious reds and chose more unusual tones, (except for the blue, which I couldn't resist). Rolling over any of the four menu headings changes the whole helix for the page, which gives a fun element of surprise to a serious subject matter, that could have been rather boring to read about. |
